giver and a taker

I recently just had this conversation with my mom. She says a giver and a taker can't be together. For example I won't except money from people I will give the shirt off my back to a complete stranger. But my fiancé is the opposite. He is a taker. (and it actually tends to be alot of our fights he borrowers or takes money or something offered to him and I hate it) She says two takers can be together and two givers can, but not both a giver and a taker . I'm curious other people opinions. Because I agree somewhat but I can't say I agree fully because I'm a giver and he's a taker I agree it's kinda saying we are doomed.
