Tampons 😣

Anyone ever develop an aversion to tampons? I'm 28 years old and I've used them since I was 13 so it's not a matter of inexperience. I definitely know how to insert a tampon, but recently every time I use them (even super light, tiny sizes) they're really painful. I feel like they make my cramps instantly worse, and I can feel a ton of pressure right away when they're in. I really really don't like pads, but that's what I'm using currently. Anyone have any similar experiences or advice? Also, I have tried different brands, same thing. I don't know if I should try a menstral cup, I just feel like that would be the same sensation.
