Vanilla sex?

Do/did you guys ever feel like sex was almost awkward or not pleasant while you started having sex with someone you really loved? I feel like sex is something where it should just be instantly great but personally sometimes I find it more of a chore having sex with my boyfriend even though we haven't been together that long. Do you feel like sex is something you have to work on or do you feel like you should instantly click with the person?
