Baby has really dry skin

My son is two months and has extremely dry skin. He’s fully African American so my mom told me to use Vaseline. I have but his skin and scalp has just been soaking it right up along with his hair. It’s only his upper body though his legs and feet are still extremely soft. What else can I use for my baby to moisturize him? I’m looking into shea moisture products but need help.
