My doctor is stating that I have to pay in full before baby is born?

That makes no since at all.... what are they going to tell you? You can't have your child because you didn't pay? Baby is coming regardless!!! I didn't even hear about a bill until me son was 3 months old. He was born 6 weeks early and had to stay in the NICU for a week. His total bill was like 650,000 for just three days! I can't remember the total number but my insurance covered the birth and four days of the NICU and then when he was covered under the insurance the last three days were covered. Depends on what insurance you have but I do know medi-cal (I'm from California) covered 100% of it. AND I'm only able to attend certain hospitals but my water broke and I went to whatever hospital I wanted and it was considered an "emergency" so even though the hospital wasn't covered (or considered covered) the insurance still covered 100% of it. If you have a private insurance they will bill you. They have no idea what medications you will use or if you will have a c-section or vaginal birth. So I don't see how they can make you pay before hand.

Wow! I've never heard that. My OB won't bill me until baby is born even though I've been seeing them for 9 months.

Yea that's normal! Usually they tell you that after first trimester and you can make payments. I finished paying off mine around 30 week!

I opened a care credit card. I put my delivery fee from doctor on it and have 2 years to pay off no interest.

Yes. In South Africa you pay in full before you have your baby (c section, atleast).

I had to pay off my deductible ($400) and my delivery copay ($450). They gave me 4 months to pay it all off. My only concern now is whether or not I’ll receive a refund for my deductible because I’m almost finished with it for this year already. I’m sure it’ll be paid off before I deliver based on my appts and that I’m high risk. Plus, I’m to receive a $250 bonus from my insurance for enrolling in a pregnancy program before 12 weeks. I just don’t want to give away $650 to my obgyn unnecessarily and not receive my money back 😔

giving birth is a medical emergency. Your doctor legally CANNOT deny you care over payment. contact the billing office, they should be able to set up a payment plan for you.
