i always see this in the discussions after things of this nature occurring. people often say their names and photos shouldn’t be shared because it gives them the gratification of becoming essentially infamous. they’re added to the lists, seem like they’re competing to be the worst, talked about and obsessed over by edgy teens, their names and photos are displayed on the news over and over, etc.

i was wondering other people’s thoughts on this. do you think this is an actual partial motive or driving factor in going through with it? always in schools shootings, or only sometimes? does it extend to other similar large-scale crimes? do you think it should change, and how?
