First period after starting birth control

Hi everyone!

I’m thinking of getting on birth control to regulate my periods. I was using a period tracker and could keep up with my next projected start date, however I found that mine was often late by 2 or more days every time. While i know this is normal for some people, I’m over playing the guessing game of when it will start.

Long story short, I’m going on a cruise next month and now that my period is late by 4 days this month, I’m worried I’m going to be on it during my vacation next month. If I got on the pill right now, is there a way i could avoid having my period during that time or does it take a few months to regulate? Any tips? Thanks!!
