Prenatal Classes??? Yes/No???

Question

I’m debating on whether or not my husband and I should take prenatal classes. We have a list offered by our nurses from my doctors office and a list of classes offered by the hospital where we will be delivering. What are your thoughts? 
I am a special education teacher and have worked with children and babies my whole life. My husband doesn’t know much about babies. I just don’t know if it’s worth it. Some of the material seems so basic, other material seems interesting and possibly useful. What are your thoughts?

My husband and I took one the other night, even though you may know a lot, it was still good information.

We did one last time. Most of it was information I knew, but I think it was pretty useful for my husband. You can also ask any specific questions you have about delivery at your hospital. Plus you get to meet other couples expecting a baby too, it can be great to make connections if you’re in need of some new mommy friends.

We won’t be doing any since my husband works in shifts and it’s way too complicated to make logistic of his schedule and the classes work around that BUT I have heard from many people that they can give great insight and overall very interesting. I have found a nurse who does them online (YouTube) so my husband I will go through that one. It won’t be the real thing but it’s better than nothing.

With my first we did a half day birth prep class that included a tour and a short infant care class (CPR and infant heimlich). I thought both were helpful.

Hubby and I took it.  I read and do a lot of research but it was still helpful to me to know what I should be researching further.  I though my husband knew, but was surprised how much was new info for him because he doesn’t have his own body as reference.  Boring, long, may seem pointless but in the end worth it.

I worked at a daycare about 15 years ago and my hubby has never held a newborn and probably only an infant or toddler about 5 times in his life. With that, we’ll be taking a birth class at the hospital, an infant cpr safety course, and a car seat safety demo where they will check our car seat installation. Just for a good refresher for me and also so my hubby can get more familiar with topics and terminology. Our birth course also includes a hospital tour.

We did the one at the hospital. It was taught by a labor and delivery nurse/ professor at the college. We thought it was really good and worth going to. We did it on a Saturday bc my husband travels during the week for work. 
If I don’t feel it’s benefiting you you can leave at any time. They give your books and stuff to take home too!

Don't know about the hospital classes, but my husband and I have been taking a Bradley method course and it has been extremely helpful.  Like PPs have said, mostly for my husband.  I know after taking it that he'll be a helpful - as opposed to a frightened and confused - presence in the delivery room.

We did a couple before the birth of our first baby and I thought that it was really helpful. Some of it was common sense info but I thought the first aid class was helpful and the other classes had good information and helped me feel more prepared for labor.

If you can easily take it go for it! It’ll help a lot more then it would hurt! And it’ll offer you a tour of your hospital so that’s nice 🙂
