Should high school students be able to eat anywhere in the school they want?

Given that it’s not disruptive to a class or other staff and students. So like the school auditorium or library or art room.

No, messes happen. No one wants to have to study with crumbs or food all over the place. That’s what a cafeteria is for.

we were allowed to eat where ever but if we made a mess we had to clean it up, but I went to a small private school. this probably wouldn't work at bigger schools. but I appreciated being able to eat and draw in peace in the art room :)

My school had three options. Cafeteria, a classroom or outside. We also had a seniors only lunch area away from everyone else. I think it worked well and people really seemed to pick up after themselves. Some kids did sit in the hallways and eat and I don’t think they were ever told to move. But we had no problems really. The cafeteria was always packed so it was nice to be able to go other places if need be

If the student is having issues and would benefit from being separated then yes. However, people need to remember that teachers and other members of staff also need a lunch break. If all students could go wherever then that would mean that teachers would have to stay in their rooms to supervise them, plus other members of staff would have to be on hand in any other areas to keep an eye out. There's also the issue of the mess that food creates, whether it's crumbs or empty wrappers etc. I'm all for students in need having safe areas, but it would cause more problems if students were all over the school without supervision

Honestly, we didn’t have much time for lunch in high school. It was 30 minutes, and if you didn’t pack your own lunch you could be spending much of that time in the lunch line. I wouldn’t want to spend more time trying to find my friends or a “cool” place to eat. I had a pretty small school so there were only three lunch periods, and no matter what every year I always had plenty of friends to sit with. I don’t really see the point in needing to go somewhere else to eat. 
There were schools near me who allowed the students to go home for lunch if they wanted because so many people lived within walking distance (not the case for my school), so I assume those kids could have eaten together or gone to McDonald’s or something if they really wanted to.

I think it depends. It shouldn’t be allowed for everyone. I think if the student has good grades and they don’t break the rules, they should be trusted. If they break the rules or have poor grades, they shouldn’t. If schools move to this, it should be a privilege.

We could eat where we wanted more or less, except for science labs, for obvious reasons. But they were locked at lunch and so were computer rooms and art rooms etc. Only rooms not locked were classrooms that just had desks and a white board. You could eat in them as long as you kept it clean. If it belonged to a specific teacher then we had to get their permission first. But we didn’t have to eat in the canteen. They also left benches around the halls if people wanted to eat there and on good days could eat outside. There was lots of places to go. Which I think is good considering the whole day you are stuck to a routine of where to be, it’s nice to just have freedom to roam.

I think it depends on the child. Let’s say there is an Autistic child, and they do not like being in crowds of people, then yes, they should be able to eat in a different area other than the lunch room. As far as anyone being able to eat anywhere in the school, no.
