I had something like this happen to me. Mine didn’t confess though, I saw Facebook messages from the first month we were together. Wasn’t physical and they weren’t a “thing”, but he was talking about taking her out to eat and accepting her invite to hang out somewhere. I had no idea who she even was.
Anyways, I was pregnant when I found out and we had already been together a year and a half... I told him he’s lucky I was pregnant and had no idea beforehand otherwise we wouldn’t be where we are now. I didn’t want to risk breaking up my family over something “minor” but I made it clear that it was not acceptable behavior. It’s ultimately up to you whether you want to forgive, but be prepared for it to be extremely difficult for you to forget.
