Strep throat in babies ??

Question

I’m thinking my son has strep and I’m wondering if it’ll go away on it’s on or if he needs meds for it??
Please allow me to vent first though. A few days ago my son had a high fever. I asked the doctor if I should take him to the ER he was moaning in his sleep. They told me no relax. They said I could make an appointment and bring him in. His temp was 101 WITH pain meds. Then 30 minutes later it was 103. Called again. Same response. 104 and he had a seizure. I rushed him to the hospital. They said he had a viral infection but not to worry. 
Two days later he broke out in bumps all over his body. More like scaby blisters. We didn’t mess around this time and went straight to the ER- this time the children’s hospital. They told us the bumps are from hand foot and mouth but admitted it was unusual he didn’t have any on his hands or feet. 
My son had been having trouble eating and has bumps in the back of his throat. I was told this was part of hand foot and mouth but I now have strep.  And so does my husband ... I  think my son had it too. 
I’m incredibly fed up with the hospitals and doctors here and so long story short just curious if I’ll need to deal with them again for antibiotics for his strep or if it resolves itself in babies ? I know babies can’t always take meds for when they’re sick and wanted to know if this is one of those instances.

I think its just the hand foot and mouth disease. My daughter had it also and didn't have any bumps/blisters anywhere on her body but her throat. Very odd. See if it clears up in a day or 2.

Personally, it sounds like herpangina to me. I am NOT any sort of medical professional but my son had pretty much the same symptoms, minus the seizure (his temp only got to 103) and no blisters; was told he has herpangina because it was only his throat. It is very similar to hands, foot and mouth. Hope he feels better soon

Strep A almost killed my son last year. The scarlet fever gave him the same symptoms as the ones you describe , from the rash to the "groaning" in his sleep. Obviously also a very high fever. It sounds like you need to be even more persistant then you already have been - ask for a throat swab / culture to eliminate certain viruses. Strep B causes "strep throat" and it too requires antiniotics but step A is much more dangerous. I hope you find answers and a proper diagnosis soon !!

My son had strep at 6 months old, he was in daycare! Very rare in babies that young but it does happen!

And also it is common for a fever rash to occur in babies after they’ve ran a very high fever!!

I’m not a doctor but I am a nurse in a hospital and I have worked with kids before. 
It doesn’t sound like strep mama. Sounds like HFM like they said. 
Also, strep can be tested with a simple culture and if you guys were admitted to the hospital, it’s likely that the doctors ran multiple tests to get a diagnosis. They would have known if it were strep.

How old is he? My dr said the youngest she has ever seen strep is 9 months and that it is incredibly rare for children under 2 to get it.

I would go back and have a strep test done if for nothing more than the peace of mind. Strep often needs antibiotics especially if the scarlet fever rash has appeared. My 6 year old had it in December and had no complaints of his throat, fevers off and on for several weeks with an upset stomach. He spiked a fever that only went down to 101
 With both Advil and Tylenol. And the scarlet fever rash. They told me it was rare in children under 2 but I still watched my daughter who was 16 months at the time like a hawk

Im sorry you went through this. I know how much hospitals and stupid drs suck. My son was severely dehydrated from a stomach buh and the adult hospital er told me he was fine bc he had one tear. Then went on to say he was fake crying and I was a hysteric FTM. I took him the 45 min to the children’s hospital in a snow storm and they luckily hooked him up to an IV. Hope things get better soon.
