Can I take my 4 month old in a public pool?

Hi everyone! I have a 4 month old son that I would love to take to the pool but I am really concerned about how the chlorine will affect his skin. His skin is not very sensitive but I’m not sure if it will give him a rash. Does anyone have experience with taking a young baby to a public pool?

We started going at 3 months and she LOVES it. The pool we go to is a really nice facility. She’s not afraid of going underwater and is completely happy there. We always shower after, but chlorine never bothered her skin.
She’s now 10 months.

You should start with like a kiddy pool in your home and see , I don't think a chlorine pool would be a good idea at such a young age but that's my opinion

It’s fine. Most baby classes here start from 6 weeks of age. If baby is younger than 6 months old only take him to a pool that's heated to about 32 degrees C. It's best to go to baby swimming lessons that use warm pools for young babies). Big, public pools are too cold for young babies.

Chlorine is used to kill germs... so if chlorine is present, those fears are unfounded (Chlorine kills over 95% of germs, so that pool water is likely cleaner than anywhere else your baby goes). From the research I was able to find, most baby’s skin is ok in chlorinated water. Most research points to using caution if the pool is indoors because of the strong smell. All I can say is use your best judgement. (I will say, my dad’s an infectious disease pediatrician and they took me to the pool from a very young age; we lived in south Texas and I was a summer baby).

I took my daughter to a public pool at 3 months. she loved being in the water. Now she's almost 2 and learning to swim. We go to water parks and pools almost every other weekend (we are Floridians). I know a lot of moms prefer to wait. My daughter's doctor had no issues with her going in, we just made sure to bathe her after... ya know like most adults would lol.
