Like with people that we disagree with.
My friend and I are having a debate. She says no because people will follow people who agree with them
I say yes because it’s very evident in the comments section of popular pages or people

It depends on the forum. It’s pretty difficult to create an echo chamber in CC unless you abuse the hell out of the mute button.

People follow what the mass says. It takes one person to step up for everyone thinking the same as them to agree. There have been studies done on things as simple as color and they had the first person say the wrong colors purposely and everyone else followed them in fear of being wrong.

I think it probably is easier for people to feel they can express their opinion on forums like this because everyone is especially a stranger to each other. The way some people speak to others on here, I would hope they have a different level of decency in person.
However on social media like Facebook where many of the people you are likely to know in real life, I think there is a bit of pressure not to post anything that you know is in disagreement with the majority. I have a lot of liberal friends who post endlessly about their political feelings. I am a conservative, and I tend to reply if what they write is offensive or false.. otherwise starting something just to say I disagree is generally not worth it to me. I know what I think and it doesn’t matter to me if friends think otherwise because I am not friends with people based on how they vote.

it does, and it helps shoe people that think the same as you, plus people that don't.

Oh for sure, one is because depending on the forum t could be literally built for exchanging opinions or voicing them, two location is no longer an issue, of course no one in my rural hometown wants to debate because they’re all idiots that think sex outside of marriage makes a woman okay to beat, but with social media that border is eliminated and, like cities, more diverse waves of people are met.

Yes, because they can do it from the safety and security of sitting behind a screen. That said, I think the QUALITY of these discussions is seriously lacking for that same reason - the fact you’re talking to a real person is extremely abstract and so it’s a lot easier to become mean and nasty in you’re responses.
