Job Troubles
So I am 2nd year untenured teacher in a low socioeconomic school district in upstate NY. I got an email requesting a meeting at the district office and when I attended the meeting I was asked to resign “due to not making enough performance growth.”
I had no warnings that this was going to happen- I have been rated by all observers as effective and have never been written up or had any conflict within my building. I talked with my union president and she said because I am not tenured I can not fight it that they will just terminate me if I do not resign. I was asked to stay until the end of the school year (June 22nd). I am pregnant and due June 23rd- I feel a lot of anxiety returning to this job and have had some complications with my pregnancy. After being totally effed over by the principal- I am feeling like I should just go to my doctor and ask to be written out early so I do not have to deal with the stress of my job. I would just quit outright and not finish the year except financially my husband and I can not financially afford it- especially now that I am going to have to find another job.
On top of all of that- I have a student in my class with severe behavior issues that can be unsafe to deal with. He has thrown furniture and threatened to harm staff and the principal just moved him into my room last month because his precious teacher couldn’t handle him.
I am feeling torn between sticking it out for the rest of the year or finding a way to get out of the situation. All opinions welcomed!
