How are you preparing your 20 month old to be a big sibling?

I’m due July, so they will be exactly two years apart... I don’t know how to prepare him.. he says words but not sentences yet so having a hard time making sure he understands.. any ideas?

My daughter is into baby dolls so we would so her how to burp the baby and be easy with the baby. She started reading to her baby and feeding it bottles. Now when we do something with her little brother she will try it with her baby too 😁 it’s so cute. She even attempted nursing her baby 😆 they are 19 months apart, hes 8 weeks now.

Baby dolls. Even if you have a boy I feel this is a good idea. My LO has about 6 of them. She's copying my actions and how I care for her, and doing the same on her babies. She's gentle with them, she gives them kisses, she puts them to bed, feeds them. She understands the word baby now, she points them out on tv or in public. I've been telling her there's a baby in my tummy and just recently she's started patting and kissing my stomach. So I feel when the baby gets here, she's going to understand on how to be gentle and nice. Hopefully she'll be excited, Due in June!

I’m there with you. They’ll be 25 months apart. I don’t think she really understands the concept. I point to my belly and tell her it’s a baby, but it’s not registering. I’m nervous about it, TBH. It’s gonna be such a huge change!

I am also due in July with baby #2 and I talk frequently about the baby in my belly and we have been putting together the nursery so my knows that it’s his “brother’s room” and refers to it as that. We also read “waiting for baby” and “I am a big brother” board books. I made copies of the ultrasound photos and gave my son a copy of his own too. Oh and I got him a baby boy doll called the Stella baby doll.
I think he mostly understands but it’s still probably a bit over his head. He does talk a lot which helps to see what he understands and what he doesn’t.

I’m getting her a more realistic baby, about a month before my due date. So she can change diapers, feed the baby, etc. That way she sees what’s about to happen & has a baby she can take care of. I’m also having the nurses take the new baby to the nursery when she comes to the hospital, spending some time with her, maybe a “picnic lunch”, and introducing the baby afterwards as if it’s an addition to our family she’s included in. I don’t want her to feel like she’s walking into a “new family”. She will be a little over two when the baby’s born ❤️

Mine turns two 4 days before the baby's due. I have been showing her pictures of pregnant women and newborns on the internet. I also let her watch the videos on what to expect app. She sees my belly now and says "baby" all the time. Not sure if this is preparing her but hoping it helps.
