Can my boyfriend take acyclovir?

So my boyfriend has been having painful urination before I was diagnosed with HSV. I got my first outbreak of HSV in November. And after that We both did STI screening and things came back negative. Except screening test don’t test fr HSV. So based on cultures I found out I had HSV. He has been my first sexual partner, but he had a little past. So it’s likely I got it frm him. So what I’m asking is can he take the acyclovir cause he has had tiny vesicles and his experiencing the painful urination.
