@Marina is right. it doesn't "tighten" the vagina by making it any smaller or tighter. they do however help to increase the muscle tone down there. this can help with a wide range of things. however, since fifty shades of grey came out and popularized them, a load of women just rushed out and got their own without consulting a doctor or reading about them first. some women are already "tight" or toned enough down there and they don't need a major kegel work out but they get these balls they think are just a sex toy. they pop them in and wear them too long and squeeze them too hard or too much and some women end up straining themselves and pulling muscles because they think that the more they squeeze hard the better the work out or more pleasure they'll get from them. the way you're supposed to use them, you are not supposed to conciously squeeze hard. your body will naturally feel there is something slipping inside there and tense lightly on it's own relfexively to keep it there.
