How do I know if I love my boyfriend?

So my boyfriend and I have been dating for a little over a month. He is my first boyfriend. Last week, he told me that he wanted to say “I love you” to me but he didn’t because he knew I would get overwhelmed. But now I’m just questioning things. I’ve never loved anyone outside of friends and family, so I dont know it. How would I know if I loved him?
