Why are so many people against C Section!?

Question

I really don't understand why so many people are against c section. My doctor told me I'll be induced at 38 weeks (gestational diabetes) and I'm a higher chance of c section. I don't really care at all if it's what the doctor says is necessary. But why are so many sooooo against it !?

Csection is major surgery. Major surgery is something that should be avoided if possible. I’ve had both. The csection was necessary and I don’t think they are bad. They just have their place and shouldn’t be done unless necessary.

I'm not against it.
however I know that IF I HAD A CHOICE, I WOULD NEVER GET A C SECTION. 
the recovery,  the pain, the scar, the possibility of not being able to have a VBAC, the fact that you might or might not get to hold baby as it comes out..are the main reasons why I feel blessed happy I didbt have to get a c section. 
I was able to push my daughter out within 4 pushes. she was placed on MY CHEST right after birth. and for 25 minutes as they delivered placenta and stitched my second degree tearing, I held my daughter. I carried her, as I was taken to my room. I washed an hour after getting to my room, on my own. I walked out the hospital,  pushing the stroller myself, because I felt GREAT.. I was back on my feet and back to normal within 4 weeks pp.
now, I'm not in any way shaming c section, quite the opposite.. I HAD IT EASY. anyone that has a c section,  is a WARRIOR.  a woman that needs to be applauded. a superwoman. because God knows, I would not be able to do it.
two of my friends ended up in emergency c sections and I was there every minute I could be there, for both. i broke down and cried both times, when I would get home.. because I realized how strong my friends are...and I thanked God that I didnt go through it, because my lame ass would have given up..and sat and cried all day

I had a c-section and don’t know what big deal is. Yes it is major surgery but you should trust your OB. Now a days it’s possible to have future vaginal births after c-section too. Scars fade. Shouldn’t matter how you’re baby comes in to the world but just the fact that you rocked the pregnancy and built a human! That is amazing! My twin baby girls were worth the surgery, worth the scar, and worth the recovery time (which honestly isn’t even bad). Just concentrate on doing whatever you have to to bring that babe in the world and turn your back to nay sayers for not being able to have vaginal. Congratulations!

I had one with my first (breach), and will have another one with this baby. 
A few people have mentioned the downsides, but to comment on a few of those from my experience- 
The recovery- I was up out of bed the next day. I had no pain (stayed on top of my pain meds), and was walking as easily as the women who’d had vaginal births on my ward by the 2nd/3rd day. I was getting out of bed by myself, feeding, changing the baby myself. Of course I had to take it easy because I’d had surgery, but the recovery wasn’t bad
The scar- I can honestly barely see. They Make minimal incisions these days. My scar from my appendicitis is much worse. 
My daughter is happy and healthy. I got to hold her soon after she was born, then she was held by my partner until I was out of recovery. Breastfed without trouble until 12 months. 
The only downside was not being able to drive for 6 weeks afterwards. 
Yes, I agree that vaginal birth should be the first option, but like another lady said, c-sections save lives. So many comments here make them out to be the worst thing in the world, for both Mum and bub, but often it’s literally a life saver.

I’m not against them at all. They save lives. I personally just would want to avoid one as much as possible. The recovery is much harder and lot more painful than a vaginal birth and has more risk associated with it. Major surgery, medical advancements or not, is still major surgery.

Because pretty much every woman wants a vaginal delivery..? Takes way less time to heal. I had a surgery that was the same procedure as a c section and it took 6 weeks before I could sit up on my own, walk straight, pick my son up. Vaginal delivery with both my kids took less then 2 weeks and I was feeling totally back to normal. Not many women are ‘against’ them either. They would PREFER a vaginal delivery, but will generally do whatever is necessary to have their baby out safely.

I hated the idea of a vaginal birth, wanted nothing to do with it. When it came to delivery the vaginal birth most likely would’ve killed me. I had a c section and it went fine. Recovery would’ve been better if the nurses gave better instruction. The scar is barely noticeable

I had a c section with my second and I.  planningy second I was with Ayla,  it's scary at firs...  I have to have them tho because I have  history of big babies andy body doesn't go into labor naturally very well..  my son was my first and he's been my almost so far at 8lbs,  5.9oz... I had a lot of complications with him.. giving birth in general is hard and makes any woman a warrior!  Some people are so worried about what comes after...  but what comes after for any birth can be scary..  there are complications for mommas who have vaginal births. Don't be discouraged if you have to just breath and know that its the safest thing for baby.

Personally, I am terrified to have a c-section. I always was to a degree but at 29 weeks I was diagnosed with a rare platelet condition. I am not a candidate for an epidural or spinal, which means I would have to be under general anesthesia. My husband would not be with me, and I would not hold (or be aware of) my child until I woke up (6+ hours based on previous surgery experiences). Major surgery with low platelets is a huge risk, so I now fear my husband bringing home a child without a mother in a way I never feared that before. Thankfully, we have a team of doctors and midwives who want to avoid surgery as well, so we’re doing various treatments to have as natural and low risk of a birth as possible given the situation. 
Everyone’s birth experience is different. There are joy filled and horror filled stories of all types of labor and birth. I think it’s ok to want a c-section, but it’s also ok not to.

I am not really against it, but it’s not my first choice. The recovery is hard enough with a vaginal delivery, let alone a c section. I may have to have one for medical reasons, which is fine if I must. But I just know the recovery is a lot harder.
