Does a 10 month old know where they’re doing..?

My 10 month old has taken up hitting me. When she does it, I grab her hand and sternly tell her “no”, but she always starts giggling. Is she old enough to realize what she’s doing..? I can’t tell if I’m wasting my time trying to scold her. 
She’s not hitting me when she gets mad, she just starts doing it when she’s bored and sitting on my lap.

Same here. My son is 11 months old and hits me in the face when we are cuddling or playing. I try to take his hand and show him how he can gently touch my face. I don’t believe he wants to hurt me, or wants attention. I think his skills are just not developed enough and he just wants to touch me and show affection. At least, that’s what I hope.

Yes she’s probably continuing it because she likes the attention. Try ignoring her and walking away for a moment. My daughter will do things like that if I’m not paying full attention to her, but then I try to reward better behavior and say good job and give her lots of attention when she gives a kiss or something. She’s stopped hitting so I think it’s worked!

My 11 month old does the same. I don’t think she has a clue. I think it’s just more exploring what movements her body can make and getting used to them.

Maybe she does it for attention. I would try taking her off your lap and leaving the room for a few minutes and then returning. She might think it’s a game. I’m just guessing though

My daughter does this, she is one. I don’t think 10 months old is old enough to understand.

Stick with it.  I actually say OUCH! And pretend like I am hurt... sadly this often causes my son to cry, but he doesn’t hit me again.  I will tell him to say sorry and give mommy a kiss... mostly to build the habit (he is 13 months and doesn’t talk yet).
