Can I ask an honest question?

What is so bad about anonymous posting? Other than it being against CC rules, I honestly and truly don’t understand the objection. Some of the anon posts are really intriguing. 
Any thoughts? 🙃

Because people abuse it. and use it to troll. or make racist or phobic posts. I can see in other rooms, for privacy issues, but not here.

The rule against anon posting was user requested. (Well technically we asked for a tech change preventing it, but we take what we can get). 
Anon has always been used to harass and spam the community. At the time it went into effect it was mostly used to post racist rants. Anons posting aborted fetus pictures has also been an issue in the past. 
Some of the question posted under anon today are interesting, but I still report them, because the rule has to apply across the board to be effective.

Also, when debating, you should stand behind your post. I find no need to post anon in this room.

Prior to the implementation of the no anon rule trolling was even worse. There were more troll posts, more call out posts, and posts that were racist and anti-LGBQT+, and just general shit-stirring. This created a lot of toxicity and drove a lot of really great users out because things were so hostile. Having this as a rule gives admin more recourse to remove such posts.
What we wanted was just to take the anon option away all together, but I guess that can’t be done so having it as a rule in was a bit of a compromise. Unfortunately, Glow doesn’t have enough admin for the moderation needed to allow anon posts. This was another user-requested feature. 
As the rule says, this is a room where you have to stand by your word. If someone doesn’t want to do that then they can just not post.

In a debate you have to stand by your opinion. It’s also a way to try to minimise the hate, people can’t hide behind anon posts to share their offensive af opinions. Some are really intriguing, but usually if you want to debate a topic I don’t see the problem owning up to the questions you asked, that only comes in handy if your post is full of disgusting hate.

it also seems pretty counterproductive to what the group is for. when they post anonymously they can’t actually debate without revealing their account and if they do then what’s the point of an anonymous post. it makes sense in other rooms, but not here.

Bc it opens the door for trolls to post hateful things anonymously. I like the no anon rule. If you post a topic here, you should stand by what you say and you should be engaging with the ppl commenting and debating on your post. I don't see the point of posting anon here.

Because people would end up posting controversial topics without owning up to their opinions. If they’re anonymous, chances are they aren’t going to respond to debates. So there would be no point. And it would also open doors to a lot of stupid and offensive posts.

Because there is no point. Anonymous is great if you have an embarrassing or personal question. But there's no reason why you can't offer a respectful debate. Except of course if you're trolling. Then anonymous makes sense.
