Toddler bed?

Question

So I saw a post asking when to transition to a toddler bed and it provoked a question for me...So what do you do when they can get out of bed...Do they stay in bed? Do they like run downstairs and play in the middle of the night? 😂 FTM here.

I put my daughter on a floor mattress in her own room at 13 months. She is almost 1 1/2 now. The room is baby-proofed completely. Her room is very close to ours, so we leave our doors open at night and put a baby gate in her doorway so we can hear her, but she cant get out. So far she doesnt get up to play at night, but she does when she wakes up, which is fine.

I tell my daughter not to get up and she doesn’t. She’s 2 next month.

When it’s dark in the room they generally don’t see the same appeal. They may run to the door and try to plead, or try to get up and pick up a toy to bring to bed, but normally it’s not as fun for them to be all over the place bumping into things in the dark by themselves.

My baby is 1 and in a toddler bed. It’s a gift because when she wakes up from a nap or in the morning, she wakes up and plays by herself in her room. 
At night, it does make bedtime more challenging because she can just get out of bed and play. 
We put her on a bedtime routine. We eat dinner, take medicine, take a bath, brush our teeth, and then play quietly in her room for about half an hour with the lights off and soft music playing. Then she gets to nurse and we cuddle. And then she lays in her bed, and I stay in with her until she’s asleep. She’s pushing boundaries right now, so she isn’t happy about it at first, but usually within 15 minutes she’s asleep. 
I’ll add— her room is totally baby proofed and all her toys are on her level. We keep a baby gate in her doorway so she can’t just roam the house,

I just used baby gates and made sure the only place they could go was into my room.

I am pretty sure most babies can get out of bed at that point on their own. I plan baby proofing her room and then using a baby gate
