induced at 39 weeks?

so Thursday I will be 39 weeks and am going in to be induced around 4 am. The Dr said he is going to give me an oral medication to soften the cervix and depending on how that goes either give another dose,start pitocin, or send me home for another week. Has anyone heard of this? I was 1 cm and 50 percent effaced on Monday with -2 position

I went in one afternoon. Started cervadil (medicine to ripen cervix) and continued that overnight until 4am when they started pitocin. Dr came in and broke my water at 7am. There was never any talk of me going in for induction and then being sent home. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

super weird to me. ive been induced all 4 times.. they start pitocin and when that starts to work they will brake my water. last time doctor did it slightly different, broke water w.out even checking me, and waited 6 hrs to see if labor started on its own, it didn't.  started pitocin at that point. that was most unpleasant induction.. will choose a day shes not on call for this last pregnancy!
