Pacifiers?! Thumb sucking?!

Question

My five months old does not accept his pacifier. Spits it out when I offer it to him ALWAYS! He then cries if I continue to offer it to him. He loves sucking on his thumb sooo much and that’s all he does. Sucks on his thumb! His thumb is now looking red and like blister. If I put on a mitten on him, he cries. I really don’t know what else to do! How do I stop the thumb sucking? Please help! 😩😩😩

I pretty much forced the soother on my boy because he was sucking on his thumb and it’s easier to wean off the soother than a thumb.. 10 months old now, almost 11 months and he wants nothing to do with the soother but I’m still weaning him off of it because he will put it in his mouth if he finds one 🙃

At this age it sounds like you can either listen to him cry with a kitten or let him suck his thumb. My son’s a thumb-sucker, literally came out sucking his thumb. Makes him feel better. He stopped sucking it when his teeth come in, now he just sticks his thumb in there and rubs his tongue on it lol he doesn’t actually suck anymore.

you can't stop it, hes self soothing and at 5 months old its a definite comfort thing. he doesnt want the pacifier so don't force it on him. let the kid suck his thumb, its not hurting him.

Mine is 4 months and the only time he takes the pacifier is when he's fussing in his sleep and I put it in his mouth.  Other than that he's sucking on as many finger that will fit in his mouth.  I don't know if there's a sure way to stop thumb sucking though
