Should the government bailout banks and financial institutions?

If governments bail out banks, Execs should be exempt from bonuses until the money can be paid back.

Don’t banks invest people’s money to make a profit? So if they were failing, a lot of people could lose their money right? If that’s accurate, I think the government should be bailing out the people who lose their money - not the profits the bank would miss out on. If that makes sense 😂 Because laws allow banks to do this so the government should protect the people’s loss.

Bad businesses fail all the time. If the bank is a bad business, it should fail.

No because it supports a corrupt system that deserves to fail but yes because that would negatively affect so many people, which in turn could cause a crisis.  At a minimum they should be paying back with interest what they were given.

On one hand, I say no because I believe in letting bad businesses fail. On the other hand, when they did this back in late 2008/2009, it was all major banks and included the largest mortgage financiers. They feared a major economic collapse. We still suffered, economically. I’m not educated enough in finance to understand if there was a better solution, but I do know two presidents completely opposite in ideology both thought it was a good thing to do.

I mean yes, because if the government couldn’t bail them out there’s no guarantee you’d ever see your money from banks. Great Depression all over again.
