IVF Meds

Amanda

I feel like fertility clinics are not always 100% clear on the cost of medication. So I wanted to share my cost experience with anyone starting the IVF process. These figures come from a clinic in Houston, TX. I did not do a fresh transfer I froze my fertilized eggs.

-My stimulation and trigger meds (gonal-F, menopur, cetrotide, HCG, and Lupron) were $6000. They did not tell me up front that I could possible have to pay more if I needed extra stim days. Every additional day would have been $500. Fortunately I didn’t, but that info was very necessary in my opinion.

-My transfer prep meds are not included in the above price. The first prescription fill was $300, and if I get pregnant I will have paid another $1000 total in addition to the stim cost.

-So total If this round results in pregnancy I will have paid $7,000 total (only for meds not the actual procedure) . If the round is not successful I will have paid $6300 total (meds).

I feel like clinics don’t volunteer this info like they should and not everyone can cover a large surprise extra expense that they weren’t previously informed of. So if you are saving or borrowing for IVF keep in mind that your stim meds may require refill if your follicles take extra days to grow, and if you get pregnant you have to stay on meds until you are out of your first trimester that are a totally separate cost.

I hope this helps! 😘
