Baby shower after baby is born??

I’m due in December and me and my husband really wanted to have a baby shower but we live in North Carolina and all of our family lives in Texas. We were planning on going down in March of next year to visit and we thought it would be a good idea to have a baby shower once we got over there. Plus we would really like for everyone to meet our little one. Instead of going to everyone individually. Would this be a good idea? Or is that too far out to have one?
