Until what age will you try with IVF?

Im 42 and this may be our last year. Many clinics wont take you if you are 43 or older. Any comment on this?

I don’t believe in age cutoffs.  As long as your doctor believes it can work, and you can afford to go on, I would never stop trying.

I think as long as you’re not menopause yet, there is hope. Janet Jackson was pregnant when she’s 48, Rachel Weiss 45. Well they’re celebrities so money was not an issue. 
I think since you’re already 42, every day counts, you have to be very careful selecting your clinic. Look at SART.org you’ll see some clinics still do over 42 IVF, and even if it’s low, the outcome is actually not bad. 
Choose reputable clinics! 
Btw, are you OK with donor eggs?

My understanding also from taking to clinics where I live in Texas is that they will not use your own eggs last 42.

I think the reason for the cut off is the health of the mother and higher risk of health problems for the baby. However, I really think it is up to the infertility docs and how healthy you are.

I will be stopping in my mid to late 30s or when I run out of eggs to transfer.  I’m not putting my body through retrieval again.  If all of my embryos fail we are done.  As much as I want a child I want my husband and I to enjoy our life more.  If I’m doing IVF meds/retrievals/transfers for the next 13-15 years we aren’t going to be enjoying our life or our marriage.  It takes time to get to the point of acceptance.  I feel fortunate to have made it here because the years of heart ache and stress while TTC have been very difficult.  Now that I know I did what I could to have children I feel so much more at peace.  If you are not at peace and trying one more time would either get you a baby or peace of mind then I believe you should do that.

Good luck Natasha, everyone's story if different. I'm sure you have your reasons for waiting sometimes it's the drs messing you around, if you don't try now you will never know if it was possible. I know that's certainly the way in the UK very slow moving. I know someone who fell first transfer at 40 so best of luck she's very happy and so is baby x

I would have tried that through out my 30s. Menopause usually takes place around 45+. Maybe thats why. signs of menopause are that things with you and your cycle start to change beforehand. I think its to old honestly. I dont mean it in a cruel way at all. But with age comes far more complications and much higher dangers for yourself and your child. They way I look at things.. i think about how old I will be if i have a child at this age or that age? So you will be around 60+ when they can graduate highschool. I also think about health problems that come with age. on top of raising a child. Say they graduate college around 23-25 years old. That puts you around 65+. Say they have your grandchildren at 30. That puts you around 72 years old. And this is if the Ivf works the first time. This would be like my grandparents raising me. and putting me and supporting me through college. Theres no way they could. Im sorry if this sounds harsh. but its just my opinion. i just dont believe women 40+ should be having children. The risks and everything out weighs the good to me.
