Do membrane sweeps actually work?

40 weeks today and my OB stripped my membranes. Does this actually help speed up labor or does it just depend?

Your body will do what it needs to do when it’s ready. I’ve heard it helps but I’ve also heard of some people not having any help from it

My friend had it done twice with her first and once with her second,  none of them worked.

It varies person to person. If your body and baby aren’t ready, it won’t work. It only has like a 30% success rate in inducing labor. Several women in the community have had it done multiple times before it worked or they needed to be induced/scheduled a csection. It also can open you up to infection. My dr doesn’t even bring it up as a possibility of “needing” to be done.

my mom had it done with my younger siblings an she went into labor the next day! As well as my friend she said she got it done an went into labor right away

Honestly I went into labor that same night after. I also went home scrubbed the floors, pumped, and made my hubby help me bring on labor.
