Basically, my husband and I are done having children. We have a 2 year old son and a 9 day old daughter that we absolutely adore. However, I have hemorrhaged four times postpartum (3 with my first, 1 with my second), had retained placenta both times, had to have a D&C;, had to have an awake emergency "D&C;" with our second, and had confirmed Placenta Accreta because of uterine scarring. We love having children...but having almost died after both of my pregnancies, we just don't feel comfortable ever risking it again. The problem is, he's 24 and I'm 23, so we were denied tubal litigation. My husband is determined to get a vasectomy, but it will take us at least a year to raise the funds to have it done. In the meantime, my OBGYN wants me to get the Mirena IUD so that hopefully it'll cause my periods to go away as I'm already anemic with a hemoglobin of only 8. Plus, "it's 99% effective." But I see so many women having issues with the Mirena...I don't know what birth control would be best? I was a anxious smoker before pregnancy, and I know how I will probably smoke again as it's my personal sin, so I want to avoid combination birth control if possible. Plus, my OB's goal is to cause me to not have a period at all. Any help is welcome.
