Do you spank/hit your kids?

Just wondering what the general feel is on this topic. I am not trying to stir shit up on here, I am just really curious. My son is 18 months old & my mom has been hinting that he needs to get popped in order to understand boundaries (such as not hitting/biting- which is crazy to me). 
I don't plan on disciplining my baby this way, but am wondering if I'm being too lenient? Is he getting away with too much because there is no physical/painful consequence?

I got spanked as a child and I turned out just fine. My daughter is 5 and I will try other methods of punishment first, but after 4 or 5 tries and her still being a little shit, I will pop her on the butt a good one. I don't do it out of anger and I'm not whooping her ass or anything, but spanking is necessary sometimes.

No never. I own a daycare and have worked with children for a looong time now. We can always tell the kids that are spanked at home because they are much more aggressive at school. They learn from you and all your teaching them is that when someone does something you don't like, you hit them. They have a harder time internalizing big emotions and let it out with anger. I manage 12 children a day (including my own) and I'm able to set boundries and discipline tham without ever putting my hands on them or hurting them at all.

Personally I won’t because I was spanked as a kid, and so were my sisters but for one of them it turned into actual physical abuse and I’m scared of that happening.

Good for you stand your ground it’s your child I agree completely with your choice not to spank or hit your child in very against this personally and feel strongly about it I don’t see how it makes any sense to teach your kids we solve problems by hitting people yet alone your child absolutely not okay ever my opinion

I wouldn’t recommend spanking a child that young because to have effective discipline you need to be able to have a conversation with the child and explain to them why they’ve been spanked. If you think that your child would understand a warning then explanation as to why he got hit then go ahead. Otherwise just grab his wrist when he tries to hit you and firmly tell him no. Also, explore possible reasons why he might be hitting and biting. Frustration? Hunger? Anger?

I will spank/hit my kids. I’m not talking I hit them with all my strength or hit hard enough to hurt/leave marks. But if I’ve told them each several times to knock it off and they still don’t listen I’m gonna pop them on the butt or give their hand a little smack. I never go to it as a first choice when I’m punishing my kids. I always save it for last resort, then they know mom means business lol 
I got it way worse when I was a kid, my mom would haul off and hit us in the store for acting up, we would get spanked and smacked all the time. I turned out just fine and I know my kids will be okay too

Your mom suggests hitting your kid to teach them not to hit? I just don’t understand. No, I do not believe in spanking. I was never spanked and my siblings and I are all well adjusted, contributing members of society. 🤷🏼‍♀️
