Why do drug addicts want everyone to feel sympathy for them? My sister has stolen money from me, sold things in my house and over all been an embarrassment to my family. Yet she still acts like it’s mine and my husbands job to keep helping her. She has a million excuses for why she’s on drugs but any help we’ve offered her she fucks it up. Im sick of the guilt trips and complaining about how no one understands her. I’m just needing to vent. I’m done with her

The most common trait nearly all addicts share is a massive ego and selfishness. Two of my brothers were addicts, and one died because of it. My ex was an addict as well. The only reason my living brother and ex got clean is because they both lost their addict brothers to drugs, and it sent them even further past rock bottom. Many addicts, especially heroin addicts which my brothers were, don’t realise how much they’re using the people they love. So, you either stage a hardcore intervention and you live in a state that practices something like the Marchman Act so they can get help, or you have to cut them out of your life. Otherwise, they’ll keep taking and taking until they hit rock bottom and get better or die. I hope everything works out, for her and you! Addiction is terrible, but it’s equally terrible to be related to or friends with an addict.

I hate to say it but I would cut all contact with her being that I myself used to have a drug problem for about 6 months after I lost my son.... my family cut all contact even though they new it all stemmed from me loosing a child and I finally met a man that helped me get off everything and straightened my life out and that was without rehab just completely cold turkey.... she’s not gonna quit unless she absolutely wants to to this day I still have no contact with my mother but that’s because of her multi millionaire bf and simply because he just doesn’t like me and is majorly controlling I have since mended the relationship with everyone else in my family and the man that saved me from myself we we are 5 years going strong.

Cut her off and stop helping her. There is nothing you can do to help or make her change. If she doesn’t want to get help or get better, that’s her problem.
Like someone said before me, it’s a typical trait of addicts to be incredibly selfish and to do all sorts of crazy things to get their fix. Just cut her off and stop helping her.

My parents are the same with alcohol 🙄 they’ve straight up lied about why they needed $50, had taken my debit card to buy beer (IM UNDERAGE) because I went to the mall and bought ONE SHIRT, and has yet to pay me back $500 for what I was promised when giving the rest of my money to help a private issue going on.

She’s a typical drug addict that always plays the victim and she’s not going to change unless she hits rock bottom. I know it’s hard but you can cut her out of your life until she decides to actually help herself if she ever does. It would be healthier for you.
