Falling In love with him regardless

I've been dating a man who I met through mutual friends. And I found out he had a past very soon in the relationship and it never bothered me. Residential Bulgary;2nd Degree Theft. I never cared that he'd made a couple mistakes. However my family isn't exactly thrilled about it...this man means the world to me but I'm worried my family will not accept us. It's mainly due to my family is majority law enforcement and they don't believe that good people can make mistakes. He was barely 18 when he did what he did, he's almost 21 now and he's grown into a person of good character, he's trying to find a job and I've been trying to help him as much as I can. He'd give the shirt off his back to me if he had to. He makes me feel safe, I never feel like he's dangerous. He's never even been aggressive towards me. I don't see why my family cant overlook it and just be happy for us. He's an amazing man who had to struggle and made a mistake. Why can't they see that?

- update- he's only been to jail once, the two charges he got are for the same day. He didn't go multiple times and hasn't done anything remotely bad in almost 3 years. Ive seen all his records and his bail bond paper work to know it's all for the same day. -- if that helps idk why I didn't add it the first time??
