I need to vent.
Ok so I’m 17- a high school student and waitress. I get stressed but I manage it as best as I can. I like my job.. but the customers make me question if it’s worth it sometimes. Well anyways, today I worked my first closing shift on a Friday in weeks. And I got put in the section that seats the “party tables” which are 6 or more. And I’ve noticed that the big parties are the rudest.. I had a table today of 7. I got all of their drinks & orders within 5 mins of them walking in the door. Well we have a “salad bar” which includes salad, sides, dessert, etc. so I have to pre bus the tables often. And I do just that. Well at the time of having this table I only had 2 other tables. So I was frequently checking up on them and refilling their drink and what not. Our policy is 10 and under get a cup with a lid and a kids meal. Well, when i sat the 10 year olds cup down she looked pissed. So I kindly asked if she wanted a regular cup like the rest of her family and her mom laughed bc she seen how mad she looked. She looked so happy when I brought it for her. Well.. our cook wasn’t the best tonight & 20 mins of them being there (I checked afterwards) the older man that was with them (who only ordered the salad bar, no meal) started YELLING at me. Like whole dining room looking yelling. He said it had been 30 mins and they were tired of waiting.. we only have 1 cook. Like what was I supposed to do? Get back there and start helping him? Idk.. they ordered steaks and all. So I explain that I am sincerely sorry and i can get a manager. They’re still pissed so they’re like no we’re never coming back. Just take it off the check!! So I go and talk to my manager and 2 mjns later the food is done. I still bring it out and the 10 year old mentioned before is like “we gonna need boxes because...” like you know with attitude. So I tell her mom my manager is taking care of the check when I bring the boxes. & while me and my manager are standing there voiding the ENTIRE check for them, the 10 year old comes up and says “Uhmmm... can you refill my Pepsi you came over there 3 times and didn’t do anything?” 3 reasons why I didn’t do anything.. 1) when kids order drinks I do not refill until parents asks me to bc of how many times I’ve been told not to. 2) everytime I came over i asked “do you all need anything?” “How is everything?”, etc. 3) shes 10! I gave her the adult cup out of the kindness of my heart w no charge 🤦🏻♀️ so anyways.. I scan thru things in my mind to say bc i can be the type of person to speak without thinking. And I tell her next time just give me a heads up bc I find myself not paying attention to things like that” and this little girl rolls her eyes at me and says “well you should” with the nastiest tone in her voice and walks away like she just shut shit down. The family was very mean to her when I would come over. But i feel like that’s no excuse.. And my blood starts boiling bc who raised her to speak to people like that? I did nothing wrong.. and got their check voided. I got the biggest mess, a full cup of Pepsi untouched, and no tip. And I had another table of 5 who had 15 million requests and demands. They were sweet tho but only left me $1 after their check was $36. I just don’t know if I’m wrong for expecting a tip or what but damn I work hard. And get paid $2.13 an hour
