Weird sleeping/nursing patterns for 5.5 week old??

Mo

My little guy has been switching it up on me the past week and a half. His longest sleep stretch is 2.5-3 hours (no biggie, took a couple months for my oldest to hit a 4 hour stretch so I expected that). The rest of the night he’ll sleep anywhere from an hour to two hours, waking sometimes for a normal feeding (for him, 12-18 minutes) and sometimes for a short one (5-8 minutes). Recently there’s one “real” feeding in the mix and the rest are snacks... Thoughts on this?

I kinda feel like if this was cluster feeding they’d all be longer but idk. Part of me thinks he’s just using me to go back to sleep but if so, I’m guessing it might not be a big deal because he’s sooo young. The other part of me says he wakes an hour later because he didn’t eat enough the last time, but I don’t have luck waking him to finish overnight feedings. He’s just OUT.

Couple other notes: he’s gaining well and has tons of wet/dirty diapers. Also, he spits up (usually just a little, no more than 2-3 times max/day) so I’ve learned not to push feedings past the 20 minute mark and just let him stop prior to that when he wants to.

This is my 2nd child and 2nd breastfeeding experience so I didn’t think I would have questions but damn, turns out when everyone said “each child is different” that totally included breastfeeding!
