Would you stay or leave?

If you were unhappy would you stay in the relationship/marriage for your kids sake? Or would you leave?

I grew up in a household where parents stayed together for the sake of the kids. IMO it's just as bad as divorce. You could feel the tension and hate. Never stay for the kids. It's very toxic

I mean there are times in your relationship where you’re gonna be unhappy. Whether or not you’re both willing to work through it together is the true test. But if one or both of you have given up and its not going anywhere then its pointless to stay.

Depends. Is it something that counseling could help? Or another honeymoon? I believe sometimes couples just need a little time alone together to remember why they fell in love. I wouldn't consider a divorce unless I have used every last ounce of help we can find, especially while my kids are still living in our household. I think some people are too quick to divorce and don't realize marriage isn't always fairy dust and unicorns... it can be tough!

I’d rather my kids learned that it’s okay to make decisions to make yourself happy and that it can be done in a mature and conscientious manner. I would still make an effort to co-parent in a positive way and never speak poorly of their other parent, despite whatever my own feelings were though. I would try marital counseling first but if I were truly unhappy I wouldn’t stay and be miserable.

No because kids don’t need to grow up with unhappy parents it’s better to be apart and be happy than stay and be unhappy just for the kids

Regardless of kids or not, while I believe in trying your hardest to make it work, you only have one life and why remaking unhappy?!

If my husband and I were ever fighting it in the middle of a disagreement, we don't show it in front of our kids and we do not discuss our relationship with our kids- doing that is toxic to your relationship with your children. Fortunately, there is very little of that in our marriage, we have little spats here and there over stupid things that last all of 10 minutes. But we try our best not to do it in front of our children. But in my opinion, it's more important to teach children that happiness is a momentary feeling and that love is an enduring *choice* and that it is *not* okay to bail on someone you love just because you are unhappy. If you love your spouse and you choose your spouse every day, the unhappy periods will pass. Children have a harder time growing into healthy, stable, emotionally intelligent adults if their foundation (their parents' marriage) is about being 'happy'or 'satisfied' instead of self-sacrificing and forgiving and compassionate. Just my opinion (my parents are divorced and so are my in-laws).
