Which parent should be the primary bond builder with your new born baby??

Question

My wife said to me that I interfere with her bonding time with our daughter. My response was "why do you think mothers are the primary bond builders with babies"? I mean you have a nine month head start, lol. I talked to her belly and kissed it the whole pregnancy but that really doesn't compare. So I ask when baby arrives who is primary bond builder. Breast feeding aside ladies, lets make this fair.

I love nothing more than seeing my partner love and bond with our children. I would never be jealous or feel threatened by him strengthening his bond with them. There are too many "dads" out there that are absent or just don't help or care at all 🤷

It should be equal outside of breastfeeding.
But, you also have to understand that women go through a lot of hormone changes as well as what they go through physically and mentally to have a baby. Some women have a very hard time adjusting to parenthood or trusting anyone to care for their baby. There can be a lot of stress and anxiety for a new mother.
The point being that you may have to make some allowances and just continue to be supportive. 
Sometimes it goes beyond normal stress and anxiety and new moms may need help with post partum anxiety or post partum depression.

When our son was born hubby took 3 wks off work. During those 3 wks I would breast feed and hubby would burp and do some skin to skin with the baby. During the night we took turns to feed baby (we supplemented with formula & I also pumped when I could). My point is, the baby is equally ours and it’s so much easier to double team the newborn stage.

It’s understandable bc usually in reality it would go straight to the mother. But I feel as if a parent wants to be more apart of their kids life and I’m talking about a healthy parent then I don’t see why not. A dad can do anything the mom does except breast feed.

My husband held our son for two hours right after he was born. Mostly because I was in recovery from c-section but when I did finally see my son and it was time for skin to skin I did 30 min and my husband did 30 min so we made it equal.

Breastfeeding is its own thing and will establish its own bond, beyond that there is no reason why she should have her own “primary” bond. She may be feeling hormonal, have some post partum depression, or even be feeling inadequate when she sees a super involved daddy bonding well. You should have family time, and then both should have your unique individual time to enjoy the new addition, look at them, hold them, and bond in your own way. No “primary” parent.

I say don’t make it a competition. I think it’s great you want to be “primary” but mom does need to be “primary” too. You can share it. I will say, my husband used to come interrupt breastfeeding (tickling baby’s feet and whatnot) when we were really struggling w breastfeeding still and that really ticked me off.
