One year old sleeps TOO much? Could this be bad for her?
My 12 month old has been averaging 15-16 hours of sleep per day. It’s not usually less, but sometimes it more! She sleeps 12-14 hours at night sometimes, waking to nurse once and then takes 2 naps that range anywhere from 1.5-3.5 hours long. She’s been teething and just got over a cold too, and I thought the extra sleeping was from a growth spurt 2-3 weeks ago, but it’s continued on like this. She’s not groggy when she’s awake, she’s very happy and active. I stick to a schedule with naps and bedtime and put her in even though she doesn’t seem sleepy. If this is a growth spurt how long should I expect her to sleep like this? Is this too much sleep for a 12 month old? Should I be concerned? I have an appointment next week with the pediatrician, but wondering if others have been through this?
Just for an example: big day yesterday and she only napped for about 2 hours during the day in the car. She still went to bed at 945 last night, she nursed at 2 and then slept until 11. She ate and played from 11-115 and then down for a nap. It’s 415 and she’s still napping!! I’m obviously cutting the 2nd nap today, but even without more of a schedule, she gets the same amount of sleep in. Her typical schedule is 9-930 to 830-9 in the morning, then sleep 2-2.5 hours after waking for 1.5-3.5 hours, awake for 2-2.5 hours again and down for another nap. After the second nap she stays up for whatever amount of time until 9 again, usually 4-5 hours and it’s her longest stretch of awake time. Should I be keeping her up more? I’m not sure what to do at all here.
