“Proper” amount of butt paste (diaper rash paste)?

My DD comes home from daycare caked in butt paste… to the point where I have to work to clean it off at bath time. I usually just put a light layer on her if she is showing signs of diaper rash. She doesn’t usually get rashes but she’s teething now so it’s flaring up. I am wondering if receiving her with caked on diaper cream is normal and I’m applying it incorrectly or if her daycare provider is over applying. I’m sure it’s obvious that I’m a FTM… there’s just SO much diaper cream…

You wanna protect their skin from everything so it can heal. I lay it on thick.

I slather it on. Not like a thick paste but enough to where some can rub off on her diaper but she'd still have enough to help her.

It isn’t lotion, it’s a barrier cream. You don’t even need to scrub it off, it will eventually wipe away with wipes. So a thick layer is needed because you are forming a barrier over the skin, not like lotion where you are letting it sink in and expecting it to disappear.

when my baby had diarrhea, he had a very painful rash, just because I had to be changing him all the time. The doctor said to put a very thick layer of paste on him and rinse the poop with water. So u only need a bunch when the rash is super bad already. When the baby only has signs then just a light layer is fine.

Somewhere between a slather and a dab. I usually just do a light layer and that works fine. IMO it sounds like the daycare is using too much. Maybe each baby’s skin needs a different amount?

I do like a fingertip or two and rub it in. unless he has a bad diaper rash and then I slather it on.
