depo or low dose combo pills?

i saw my doctor today because I've been having really awful periods (extremely painful and heavy) she suggested either depo shots or a low dose combo pill pending the results of a pelvic ultrasound.
what have been any experiences with either or both of these options? would you recommend one or the other?

I do not at all recommend depo. It’s fine at first but after about the second shot everything is horrid 😩 I’m on for the past 7 months and I’m not getting my next shot because I can’t take it. The mood swings are so bad. I’m never ever happy because of it. I get so much cramping. And I’ve had my period for two months straight now. Just my experience but I’ve heard many others have the same experience and the mood swings almost everyone on depo that I’ve talked to has complained about. It’s horrible

I currently have the depo. I just had my 2nd shot and so far everything is fine. I haven't had a period and I haven't gained any weight. Birth control affects everyone differently.  The first time I tried depo I had bled the entire 3 months and also had horrible cramping. That was 4 years ago. I tried other birth control but decided to try the depo again and it has been better.

Depo is notoriously bad for side effects. I had an awful time on it and I can’t recommend it.

Iv used both and with the pill I had little to no side effects and had 3 days of spotting for my placebo week. With the depo I had horrid mood swings gained 15lbs and had a constant period/bleeding for the whole 3 months, so if you can guess I prefer the pills lol but everyone different.
