Bad latch? Tongue tie?

Mommas- my LO is just over a week old and we are still perfecting breastfeeding. His latch isn’t perfect every time but he does okay most of the time. I noticed today that his lips started getting red and irritated... is that normal? Or is it sign of a bad latch? I’m a little paranoid he has a tongue tie or something because upon delivery, one dr told us he was concerned his tie was too far forward but our other dr told us he seemed fine. Advice?

my son looked the same way, and he had a really bad latch. depends really how you feel, are you cracking and bleeding? is he gaining weight normally? drs aren't the best at these things, I would contact your local lactation consultant for a better answer. ❤

I was told to position baby nose to nipple and then slightly tickle the upper lip and drag down so the lower lip is below the nipple more to get a better latch and flow. its possible he is getting a bad one and not getting the breast positioned properly which can cause him to be sucking and sucking but not really getting anything. Maybe see if your on can refer you to a lactation consultant or if you get WIC ask to speak to theirs.
