Need advice on an injured boyfriend

Hey girls, so recently my boyfriend has just had major surgery on his knee after having a very bad injury while playing rugby ( rugby is what he lives for) after his surgery he has found out he will not be able to play again until 2020 and that will be when he starts to train again. It has been really getting him down and it breaks my heart seeing him this way, he’s not himself at all and I just want to do something for him to pick up his spirts completely, so could anyone suggest anything I could do or buy to help this?
