Two weeks from my final divorce, then...

Ashlee

I was two weeks from my final divorce hearing when something happened. So my husband was an alcoholic and I reached a point where I realized he didn't want to change and I had to make a choice for my life. A lot has happened through our divorce and he fought me every step of the way. Our hearing at the end of April couldn't be finalized because he showed up drunk and they couldn't accept his statements. He had to show up for our next hearing on 6/14 sober. On 6/2 he went in for detox (he detoxes hard and knew he would need enough time). Something got him transferred to a bigger hospital and by the time I learned about it from his family, he was intubated. He continued to decline as the days went on and on 6/15 his family decided to take him off machines and he passed a few hours later. His family considered our divorce final and left me off the obituary and arranged the funeral so my family did a small gathering at their house for me. I am now battling his family in his estate, but luckily my attorney filed it with the court before his family could still I'm in charge of collecting assets and paying debts. They are being petty and I have to think one step ahead of them and outside of the box; like change locks at my own house, take license plates off vehicles because they kept the keys after returning them. I am 30 and have been through a lot in the last year. I am so thankful to have great friends and family for support!
