Would you care if your SO went with a cheap ring?

I’m just curious and I’ve also seen a similar post a long time ago but forgot the response. My fiancé proposed to me with a $20-50 ring which I love soooo much! But when his family members asked him how much it cost they made him feel pretty bad about it. I never expected a gigantic diamond ring for him or anything, as I always wanted to get a wooden ring. Also he proposed very early in the relationship so I wouldn’t have felt comfortable if he dropped so much money when we haven’t even dated for a year. Anyways what y’all think??

Honestly, yes I would care. I plan on wearing my engagement ring for the rest of my life and I want a ring that will not only last 80+ years, I also want one that will suit 24 year old me as well as 84 year old me. My ring, is all white gold with three diamonds. Its a stunning ring and I love it. It suits my personality and style very well and it's a classic setting- it'll age with me. The metal won't tarnish and won't cause my finger to go green and the diamonds will withstand everyday life. Yes it cost more, but it's a one time purchase. I hate the idea of upgrading my engagement ring later in life because to me it just makes it seem like the original isn't good enough. To me that ring represents a promise to marry someone and be together until death do you part- that  should never degrade in worth. 
My fiance has the same mentality and he makes very good money. He could afford a more expensive ring. His opinion is that yes it's a bigger purchase now, but he's got his whole life to make money. What matters isn't the money, it's that the ring is something Ill love forever and it'll always be as beautiful as it was the day he proposed just as his promise to me has never wavered.

He could give me a free ring. I'd be fine with it as long as it didn't break me out/turn my finger green. I have to have Sterling Silver at least but the cost doesn't matter to me. I think your ring is very pretty! I wouldn't want my boyfriend to send over $200 on a ring. If he could spend $20 on something we both like then all the better.
