Any medicine to calm toddler down?

Question

Going on a really long flight. my 2 year old is extremely active and has a hard time sitting and staying in one spot. When aggravated he tends to scream. Any over the counter medicine to calm him down maybe get him to sleep as well? Is Benadryl something to consider?

Thank you to the people who actually gave advice i did learn a lot.
I asked about Benadryl because my friend (who is not a mom) told me her mom used to give it to her when she wouldn’t calm down. 
Being a first time mom and don’t have any mommy friends i don’t know these things, thats why i use glow for help but most of your answers are just rude and telling me to go get help? Isn’t that what am doing?
Like any parent I would never do anything to harm my child, thats why i ask questions.

I totally would never think of drugging my kid. this is what we have always done for our kids. first is when you get to the airport run them! Let them run. make a game of it. like I will time you to the garbage can and back. then when on the lane I always have a new toy and book. something they don't get until you take off and they ate bored with what Ever else you brought. I don't know how long your flight is but that had always worked for us.

You should not be drugging your child because they are active.. maybe see if changing their diet to less sugar and try to opt for non processed organic options. If you think the over activity is to the extent of being an issue consult your doctor. But kids this age are active and like to go go go, so deal with it or get a nanny that can. If your first though is to drug your kid to calm them down you need help.

Ask his pediatrician about children’s melatonin. It’s specifically for those purposes, and they might have other ideas if they’re not on board with that one.

Benadryl will not hurt him, however some kids have the opposite reaction. it can make them hyper, so its recommended to try it on him before the flight to make sure he doesn't have that type of reaction.

This is sad, it's wrong. You shouldn't turn to drugging him first. Like others have said, make him tired/sleepy. Just PLEASE do NOT take it upon yourself to drug your child.

Please don’t try to sedate your toddler, ever. Like the other comments said, get him exhausted before the flight. If you’re able to get him a new toy that he really loves before the flight that’s a good idea too so he’ll be occupied.

You're kidding, right? This is easily the most ridiculous post I've seen in a while. He's two! He's a toddler! He doesn't know how to communicate his emotions. Instead of drugging him, why not be a parent and actually TEACH him how to handle his emotions and communicate his needs? Ridiculous.

Maybe consider booking a late flight and giving a small 1ml does of melatonin to help sleep through it. Benadryl shouldn’t be given for that purpose.
