The pharmacy mixed up my babys medicine!
I went to the hospital for a diaper rash on my two month old little baby, he got prescribed Nyastatin Topical Cream. I go to pick up the prescription, I go home and the bottle says "Nyastatin Oral" ok? so I read the directions because I was a little lost. The pharmacist put a note under the prescription saying "APPLY TO THE AFFECTED AREA BY TOPICAL ROUTE TWICE DAILY AS NEEDED AS DIRECTED". So I did as the pharmacist directed and applied it on him after I gave him a bath than put him down to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night to change his pamper and feed him. ( I breast feed so I don't have to get up and make a bottle) I have only a nightlight so Its just enough light to change his diaper and apply more Nyastatin without getting my half asleep self up to turn a light on. I really didn't see his progress with his diaper rash because everything was still fairly dark and I was half asleep. He was being extra fussy and I didn't realize because i figured it was from changing his diaper and he was hungry. SO he usually sleeps through the night, and he wakes me up at 5:20. Luckily, I go use the bathroom, turn the lights on. change his pamper once again and I realize THAT MY LITTLE RAY OF SUNSHINES RASH WENT FROM BEING SMALL TO IRRATED AND RAW ON HIS LEFT INNER THIGH AND ON HIS RIGHT SIDE HE HAD NO RASH AT ALL, now he has bumps and bits of peeling skin becoming raw. His testicles were red and bumpy and his penis was red and swollen at7 the tip. I panicked and called CVS Pharmacy (because Walgreens opens at 6:00AM) and they told me oral should never be applied topically and it causes rashes, hives, fever sometimes and I was just SO MAD. I took him him the hospital and the SAME doctor that was their indeed did say it looked worse. I thought it was the hospitals fault and checked the paper work and they indeed did put topical down. so they gave Walgreens a call to inform them of their mistake and Walgreens

did say they accidently mixed up the prescription. when I went to go pick up the prescription in the first place, it took at least hour to retrieve. I know they were busy BUT SHOULD ALWAYS PAY 100% ATTENTION TO WHAT THEY'RE GIVING OUT. and even though their both Nyastatin, Topical is used for yeast on the body and Diaper rash and Oral is used for yeast in the mouth and Thrush mouth, two different things. My baby was so tender it made me so sad wanted to take the pain for him. This teaches me a lesson to ALWAYS check my son after putting anything on him. I know it's small but I feel like I let someone hurt him 😭😓😓🤕
