Marriage is Hard

“I don’t want to bring a kid into this because I don’t want your values on the child.” That’s what he said to me last night.

I’m very liberal, he’s quietly conservative. He doesn’t want my “liberal values” on his child.

We’re not trying to have a baby. But since I’m not on BC, it’s always a possibility.

For as many years as I’ve been with my husband -9 years-, he scrutinizes our relationship very intently every summer. He doesn’t see it, of course, this summer depression. He suddenly discovers how different we are. Last year it was because we like to different activities (well, I do activities and he just says “no” to any). This year it’s our political values and different activities.

In one breath he says, “I want to go old with you but I’m afraid I’m won’t want to talk to you when we’re old.”

I think I’ve finally reached my limit.
