Did any of you have an OBGYN that said they wouldn't circumcise your son? Needing some help. 1st time mom.

It is their practice policy and specifically say that if you want your son circumcised, to coordinate it with your child's pediatrician.... It seemed odd to me because usually the baby is circumcised before leaving the hospital... This is my first pregnancy, so I don't really know what is normal or not... Circumcision is the ONLY thing that has me stressed about a son. We know we want it done, but the after care, and now my ob saying they won't do it has me even more worried. Any thoughts you ladies have is much appreciated 😊

My hospital doesn't do it. That being said, perhaps do some research? Circumcision isn't actually medically necessary.

My ob had nothing to do with the circumcision, a pediatrician did the procedure on day 2. She met with us day prior and went over what they did and what to expect after

To be clear OBs are basically specialists in the lady department only. So that makes sense. If we have sons I don't plan on circumsizing them but I wouldnt assume my OB would do it

Interesting the OB on call did my son’s and when I filled out the paperwork for our second due in October we had to indicate if we wanted it done and sign a consent form so I assume the same will happen this time. I’d check with the hospital where you’re delivering and see how they handle it.

an OBGYN wouldn't do that procedure. it also depends on your hospital and insurance. my friend had her son and they could've done it at the hospital but her insurance considers it cosmetic (which it is) and wouldn't cover it so they would've had to pay cost out of pocket. her pediatrician also said they could take care of it but same issue with the insurance. I'd just call around and ask for your situation. call the insurance company, the hospital and the pediatrician you plan on your son seeing

It’s usually the pediatrician that does them, usually while they are in the hospital. The hospital I deliver at has the OB do them, which I thought was really weird. But yeah, 99% of the time it’s the pediatrician that does it.

A lot of OBs don't do it. Ask your pediatrician or coordinate a urologist to come to the hospital.

It’s not an OBGYN’s job to do circumcisions or care for an infant. Their job is to care for you while pregnant and through delivery- once the baby is born, a family doctor or pediatrician is who cares for the child. You’ll need to find the proper doctor to do his surgery whether at the hospital or in his private practice afterwords.

I don't know why they are saying that. You don't have to get it done in hospital. The pediatrician can do it at their clinic. So talk to your son's pediatrician about  it. Not your OB
