How does someone leave a tampon in for so long?

So this is a serious question. This is why I’m so scared to wear tampons !! I read something that a girl left her tampon in for NINE DAYS and got TSS. & I know it’s a lot more common to forgot them in, how do you ladies forgot that you have a tampon in? Also this is a serious question, not trying to be ignorant. I’m just really curious. I know a lot of women who wear tampons and leave them in for a whole day sometimes or 12+ hours.

Tampons didn’t even last me longer than four hours without bleeding out so I’m not sure how you could forget them at all.

I can always feel the string hanging down, so I've never forgot I had one in. I'm hyper aware of little things like that though. I cant even stand it if my bra is crooked or my underwear bunch up on me or a seam on my shirt is crooked... I might be a little nuts lol.

The longest I wear mine are overnight. I usually change them every time I use the bathroom unless it’s a light day then I just take it out and use a panty liner for an hour or two to give it a rest. I have NEVER forgotten to change a tampon. They’re too noticeable, especially when you pee, you’re wiping and it tugs on the string.

I guess if it's super comfy you might forget. I use menstrual cups and I definitely forget about them sometimes. Never for 9 days though.

ive never forgot i had a tampon in, i can feel the string though too. But one time i was drinking having a good time, went to the bathroom with my friend and i thought i took it out and went to shove another up there 😂 it hurt like hell and we laughed about it but thats as far as ive come to that kind of thing
