37w Checkup Gone Wrong?!?

Charli • 20, Kayden Charles 💙

Day 1: Had my routine 37w checkup and everything was good. I brought up to my doctor the fact that my palms and soles of my feet were being scratched raw especially at night. Although rare, I got 4 labs done to check to see if I had cholestasis which pretty much means my liver and bile salts were slowing down and entering into my bloodstream. It affects baby way more than mom so it usually results in early delivery and if not caught early enough could result in stillbirth. So my mom and I leave my appointment and go home for a bit until she gets off work so we can go shop for the rest of Kayden’s stuff (THANK GOD WE DID). We went home with dinner for my dad and brother then around 2130/2200 we got 3 phone calls and a voicemail from my doctor saying that we need to immediately go to L&D; because my tests showed that my liver enzymes were beyond normal. We showed up, I got changed, checked, and monitored. They put a cervadil in to be left for 12 hours. I wasn’t dilated any because I was only 37w so no biggie.

Day 2: I got my cervadil taken out around 0445, I ate, showered, had breakfast. I got checked again and still nothing, just barely 1cm. They decided to start pitocin until 0900, I got checked and NOTHING. So they placed a pill onto my cervix for 4 hours. Got checked. Nothing. Got ANOTHER pill for 4 hours. Got checked. NOTHING. I was also on pitocin for the second 4 your pill they placed in.

Day 3: They put in another cervadil that night for 12 hours again so I could be checked. Woke up, same routine and NOTHING changed! Started BACK on pitocin for the whole day and nope...NOTHING! Everyone was a little dumbfounded because they usually get great results using cervadil twice.

Day 4: Once I woke up I had my pitocin started again for a bit before they told me that they wanted to break my water that day around 1200. At that point I was beyond frustrated so I cried. I was stuck in an L&D; breakaway bed which isn’t comfy whatsoever going on Day 3. I was on pitocin and once they broke my water my contractions were beyond intolerable but I have a high pain threshold so to me it was like a 3/10. Once I got checked again I was at a 2! Yay!! It meant everything was going good... until they checked me again some hours later.. no progression. Now the talk about C-sections was happening which I didn’t mind so much just because there’s nothing to be all that worried about with one. They pretty much forced me to get an epidural because they wanted me to max out on pitocin.. So I did and at this point I was BALLING because we planned the C-Section for 8 but I had progressed to 3CM so I had to wait ANOTHER 3 hours before getting a c-section. Once I got all drugged up, before you know it I was in the OR with my mom getting a c-section!!!
